Tokyo Shopping Guide: Lucky Star

Lucky Star

Lucky Star has sadly closed down.

This really was a lucky find. We weren’t looking for fabric stores and weren’t in a shopping area; in fact we were only in Meguro to visit the Parasite Museum! But on the way we spotted a huge display of cute fabrics outside a shop and vowed to have a look on our way back. On our return, it was even better than expected. The tables outside are covered in crates and crates of ready-cut fabric of every design – character, kawaii, flowers, geometric, everything! You can choose from large pieces (probably a metre, at least) or smaller, handkerchief sized pieces of thin cotton for bargain prices.

Once you finally make your choices and go inside, you’ll find a treasure trove of crafting supplies – boxes and boxes of cute plastic buttons, iron on appliques, yarn, thread, kits and much more, all crammed into this tiny store. When I went up to pay, the owner was a lovely old man who totted the prices up on a notepad and then entered them into the biggest, oldest cash register I have ever seen. It was amazing. This shop has probably been here forever so please go visit it and make sure it stays there.
