I was doing some end of year admin at the weekend, like paying my taxes (boo!), doing my accounts (booo…actually I enjoy this…) and totting up my monthly sales for 2012. I thought I’d make some charts “for fun”. The one above is monthly sales for my shops on Shopify, Etsy, Folksy and DaWanda. I think the Shopify one (in blue) pretty much accurately describes a year in the life of online sales. Up down up down up down yay Christmas!
I’ve been doing this since I started selling online so I can now compare sales over four years. Two points of interest here:
1. The site you promote is always going to be the most successful – my Shopify store is way ahead every year and that’s all on me. Yay me!
2. It’s incredibly interesting to me that my sales on Etsy and Folksy were almost exactly the same until the end of 2011 where Folksy divebombed. What happened then? Their new site redesign! I’ve already decided I’ll be ditching my shop once my Plus account runs out but this really makes it clear.
Do you crunch the numbers for your sales? You might find out something interesting if you do!
