asking for trouble

Two Days on Iona

Iona

I haven’t mentioned it here much recently, but I am still also a web designer/Shopify consultant and a couple of weeks ago I went over to Iona to help out some friends who run the Iona Craft Shop.

Ferry from the other ferry!

Iona is an island off an island off the west coast of Scotland so it’s quite an adventure getting there with a train, two ferries and a bus! I passed through so many beautiful landscapes that I never even opened my book during 6 hours of travelling. I live-listed my journey, if you want to travel along with me.

Iona Wool at Iona Craft Shop

Once I got there, it was lots of good team work in our mobile office van organising their product range and new website. The shop is full of colourful, patterned, local products so it made my job very easy.

Iona Abbey

I did manage a little bit of exploring though, getting up early for a walk up to Iona Abbey. The best thing about staying on the island is that you beat the day trippers so I almost had the place to myself.

Iona Abbey

I wish I’d had more time to look around everything, but I was there to work and despite how serene these photos look, it was really windy.

Morning view

I ended up only staying two nights as the weather was getting worse and the ferry had been cancelled. I didn’t want to get trapped there for days so I took the next ferry off (which was quite a rollercoaster!) and headed home.

Oban

If you ever get the chance, it’s well worth making the journey to Iona, or even just to Mull or Oban (looking lovely, above). You can see more of my photos on Flickr. I’m definitely not going to wait too long before exploring further along the train line between Helensburgh and Oban/Mallaig.
