I skipped June because it was a nightmare and July because it was so much worse but let’s try and get going again. Here’s a look back at the last 3 months with photos, blog posts, plans & goals progress, links and more.
What I’ve been up to
Where do I even start? In happy news, I went on a couple of family trips, attended some entertaining local events and got to review some fun stuff. On the Not Great side, a server update caused some nightmarish problems (see below). And then my life completely imploded. I will share more some day but suffice to say the only thing that is not causing me major problems (touch wood!!) at the moment is my shop, though some more sales would certainly make things less stressful.

Plans & Goals Progress
- Books, Comics & Zines I Read in 2024 – 6 more, still on schedule. I also got a new Kindle and reorganised my books, but that still means my unread book count is over 30 again.
- I went to Aberdeen which counts as a UK day/overnight trip.
- I made waffles again but it went badly so I think I need to change this to ‘make good waffles again’
- I started organising clothes to sell on Vinted soon. Follow me!
- This was on my ‘probably won’t happen this year’ long list but I redesigned the SCK website after putting it off for years and years! Sure, I did most of it in a one day panic after that server update made the current theme obsolete, and it’s still a work in progress, but it’s starting to look pretty great.
Links I Loved
- I like Bluesky best of the new social medias and my absolute favourite account is musettedutour who has an astonishing collection of dolls and accessories used to make little scenes from sporting events. The Tour de France was hilarious, the unsung heroes of the Olympics were amazing and the Vuelta supermarket start actually made me cry laughing (to be fair, it really happened and was a very silly day).
- Great post by acorviart on Tumblr on some of the reasons why artists don’t share manufacturors/suppliers. Surprise, it’s not because we’re mean or gatekeeping.
- More Japan Super Budget Dining at SoraNews24 – this time how to spend ¥1,000 at Baskin-Robbins.
- bis are celebrating their 30 year anniversary (surely this is not true!) and sharing some very entertaining and interesting behind the scenes updates on Facebook about all their releases and history.
- Great article on Scotland’s great lost all-female bands. I’ll have to look out for the film.
- Gamer parents and their kids try playing each others’ favourite childhood games. Good fun.
- Where to Read Online Zines at Book Riot is a great guide to bookmark with links to zine libraries, online archives etc.
- My ongoing Zelda blog about stupid/fun stuff I get up to in Tears of the Kingdom continues to be one of the most enjoyable things I spend time on.
- Emma is back from a couple of months in Japan and has been writing some awesome guides for SCK including Ghibli Park, The Pokemon Cafe In Osaka, teamLab Borderless and the Hello Kitty Shinkansen. More to come too…
- A reminder that I share all my kawaii & Japan links on the Super Cute Kawaii newsletter. It’s free!
- A random thing that might help someone else. I’ve felt left out of the whole podcast trend but recently discovered Apple Podcasts provides auto-generated transcripts and now I can read podcasts! I really recommend it as you can skim through ads and waffling. I may have a list of favourites to share eventually.
