Friday Catch Up #14

Pile of cute fabric.

What have I been up to this week?

Some of the cute fabric I’ve been sewing with recently. I started a new personal project and I’ll blog about it soon.

Lots of magazines! I will be reviewing some of these in more detail but here’s some info if you want to get a copy before they sell out. Boat Magazine move to a new city for each bi-annual issue and this time it’s Kyoto. It’s full of really interesting articles, photos and illustration on things like geisha, sushi, sustainable forestry and bonsai, plus a story by Haruki Murakami. Lucky Peach is a food magazine I’ve always wanted to read and since this is the travel issue, I figured now was the time to start. I’ve barely dug in yet but it looks amazing – Hawaii recipes, street food, the history of curry, Christmas in Sweden and loads more. UKer’s can buy copies here. And the new issue of out of the way travel magazine Wanderlust just arrived. It’s one of just 2 magazines I subscribe to (the awesome Fire and Knives is the other) because it’s always a good read. The current issue is a Travel More, Pay Less special so I’m sure it’ll add another 20 locations to my dream travel wishlist.

The Office (US). I made it to the series finale, and while S8 was truly awful and S9 only a bit better, they managed to at least give it a good send-off. The first 4-5 seasons were great though so it will still have a spot in my favourite TV shows ever list.

Lovefilm started me on Dexter and I’m not sure I really like it as such, but I enjoyed S1. It’s a bit silly and the flashback stuff is kind of boring, plus I figured out every plot twist (often in an ‘oh please don’t let it be X’ way). I hear it gets even sillier in later seasons but I’ll keep watching for now.

The Americans sounded like exactly the sort of thing I would like, being a bit Homeland crossed with Alias and starring Felicity. It’s a bit riddled with plot holes at the moment but I am reserving judgement for now as it is very watchable. The whole thing’s still on ITV Player, if you want to catch up.

I also loved the second season of  Parks and Recreation and I’m a bit gutted they haven’t just carried on into showing S3, but Futurama is back so I’ll manage.
