asking for trouble

Recent Crafts

I’ve probably done more crafting in the last couple of months than in the last few years! The early weeks of lockdown felt a lot like a weird holiday, and even though I’m working a lot more now, I’ve still finished a few things. Let’s have a look!

Creative Kawaii Box

My birthday present to myself was the Spring Creative Kawaii Box and it really was the perfect thing for lockdown since all the supplies are included. I love to make things, but it’s easy to get overwhelmed with choices of what to make and what to use or buy, so this is really low stress.

The embroidery hoop was my favourite but I really enjoyed the resin hair tie as well. I’ve got some resin left over so might have to try something else soon. I wrote about everything in more detail over at Super Cute Kawaii.

Fabric Face Masks

Like everyone with a sewing machine, I’ve made my own face mask. There are so many patterns out there that I didn’t know where to start, especially since I live in a rural area and barely interact with anyone so don’t need anything fancy. I remembered this no pattern tutorial by Lady Astronaut author (and puppeteer!) Mary Robinette Kowal and it was so fast and easy. I used some folded up florist’s wire for the nose and it works great.

If you need some more help, I also put together a big post on SCK about making and buying cute face masks, including approved designs for healthcare workers.

Miniature Gallery

I had an Etsy gift voucher to spend and almost bought another embroidery kit, but decided instead on something very simple, cute and fun – a miniature gallery kit from I Like Cats! The most difficult part of this kit is deciding which of the many cute artworks to frame but then it’s all done in minutes. I haven’t decided where to hang them yet but probably in my studio once I get it back.

Coming Soon…

I’ve also been working on a few crafty things for my shop. One is a new colouring book and another is an activity box with a few projects and mini zine. Plus Claire & I have some new cross stitch patterns ready to try out. It’s going to be fun! As always, my patrons get early previews and first access – another good reason to join my Patreon.
