Playing With Outlines

It’s no secret that I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired creatively this year, but I’ve been trying not to worry about it as something always brings it back. Recently I’ve playing with a new style that I really love so here’s a peek at some of my ideas.

I saw some fan art that was drawn as different coloured outlines on a transparent background and I wanted to try it out immediately. Since I usually draw with flat shapes, it gives my characters a whole new look that’s really fun. This rainbow is probably my favourite so far.

I also tried outlining the eyes as well. I don’t think I like this generally but it makes my Thunder cloud look even more adorably angry.

I must have tried this with every character in my archives and it doesn’t work on all of them, but I have at least 20 that I want to play with more.

I’m not really sure where I’m going with this but it feels great to be having fun again and feeling inspired. I already ordered some clear stickers that will be arriving soon and a few more possibilities spring to mind, including repeat patterns. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next!
