Another bumper batch of Japan-related articles.
First up, I reviewed a new book – Kawaii! Japan’s Culture of Cute at Super Cute Kawaii, and we also have FIVE copies to give away. It’s a really cool book with lots of interesting profiles and history so I definitely recommend entering!
There’s a new Tokyo Craft Guide coming out soon, an ebook collaboration between Angela of Saké Puppets and Frances of Miss Matatabi. They both live in Japan and make lovely things so it should be a must buy for any sewists and fabric fans. Check the website for news of the release date.
Tokyo Cheapo is a new blog find for me. They post regular articles and features about ways to visit and live in Japan cheaply. While some may not be useful if you’re only planning a short holiday, the weekly round-up of free events is well worth checking, not to mention their cheap eats and shopping tips. I was very interested in this article about the “Off” stores. I knew about Book Off for secondhand books and CDs, but there’s also fashion, hobby and home versions! Also cool – a free Moomin Park!
RocketNews24 post so often it’s difficult to keep up so I do my best to catch the best articles. My favourites recently: Top 20 Places to Catch a Great View in Japan and Hello Kitty melons! Plus they have news about an amphibious bus tour of Tokyo that can go on the water! I had the Osaka tour as a possible for our last trip but we didn’t end up checking it out. Anyone been on one?
And finally, an article on Japan’s kawaii mascots at The Guardian led me to this video of the world record for most dancing mascots, which literally made me shriek with joy. Keep watching to the end – it just gets better and better!
