My Reading Challenge on Goodreads isn’t going quite as well as last year. I’m currently 2 books behind schedule and haven’t given a single 5 star rating yet. However, there has been one very good increase to my stats – library books!
I recently heard about a Chrome browser extension – Library Extension – that automatically checks whether books you’re looking at on Amazon etc. are available from your local library. My local library is pretty small and I never usually find much to borrow but one Sunday I trawled through my wish lists for books and ebooks and found 34 in my area! I reserved a few and they all turned up together the following week, even with all that snow.
It’s especially impressive when you check a map. Argyll & Bute is the second biggest council area in Scotland and includes a lot of islands, peninsulas and lochs. I’m in Helensburgh and my books travelled over from Dunoon, Oban and Rothesay on the Isle of Bute.
Anyway, I’m pretty excited about all the new books I can read for free (and I’m taking that four-week return date as a personal challenge). I do prefer ebooks over big heavy hardbacks but most of my wish list is still quite high priced and the money I save can all go towards my Japan trip. I definitely recommend visiting your local library and installing Library Extension. My library wasn’t included but I requested it and they added it in 24 hours!
