A new batch of favourites with a wish list of things I want plus some interesting links from around the web and current entertainment.
Wish List
- I didn’t get up at 2am for the launch so missed out on this Tomopu plush at San-X. Please restock!
- Obviously I need some stationery cats washi tape by Coco Glez
- I love Lizzy House’s ghosts, especially when holding a sad strawberry
- File under things I definitely don’t need – a little plush Kirby bag.
Links I Loved
- It was really fun to read about Smitten Kitchen’s whistletop 9 day tour of Scotland, especially to discover that she stopped in Helensburgh and ate at a restaurant 2 minutes from my house!
- teamLab Planets was one of the highlights of our last Japan trip so it was nice to see this blog post by emiichan who visited recently. It’s still very similar but there’s a new outdoor area too.
- Good piece on The TikTokification of Instagram by Emma Gannon.
- This story about an encounter with carpet sellers in Istanbul at Prêt à Voyager did not go where I was expecting it to.
- Someone made a full size rideable cardboard Master Cycle (the motorbike from Breath of the Wild)!
- Someone else made an incredible Wind Fish embroidery inspired by Link’s Awakening.
- Video Games and the Promise of Cake is a cool read.
- I’m always fascinated by the process of designing a book cover and this is a good one at Faber.
- My Sundays often involve the all day Columbo repeats on 5USA so I enjoyed reading The 100 greatest Columbo scenes of the 70s.
- It’s always nice to stumble across a blog you thought was long dead. Good to see Print + Pattern is still around and sharing lots of surface pattern design.
- A reminder that I’m on tumblr and sharing lots of fun stuff – mostly art, books, Zelda etc.
- My most kawaii links are now being saved for the new weekly SCK newsletter on Substack.
- You can see what other newsletters I’m enjoying on my Substack page.
Into It!
I finished the Sega edition of Picross (and discovered I know like 1 Sega game that doesn’t feature Sonic the Hedgehog) but luckily the other Picross games were on sale so I can go straight into S4. I also downloaded the demo of Kirby and the Forgotten Land and screamed my way through it. Kirby turning into a car, vending machine etc. is just hilarious. It’s also pretty fun and easy so I’ll be tempted to buy it if it ever goes on sale.
