Here’s a look back at my 2023 reading challenge and my reading goals for 2024.
I optimistically set my Goodreads reading challenge back to 52 books and only managed 35, which is a new low for me. That was mainly due to MOBY DICK, which took me 6 months to finish, plus I also did a lot of re-reading – including some very long books – which I don’t count. I still read a lot of good stuff so here’s a little breakdown.
- Fiction: 17 / Non-Fiction: 16 / Comics: 2
- 5 stars: 10 / 4 stars: 11 / 3 stars: 13 / Unrated: 1
- Ebooks: 30 / real books: 5 / of those, borrowed: 5
- You can read about them all on my Books, Comics & Zines I Read in 2023 page.
And here’s my elite group of 5 star books. Almost all fiction, and a lot of space!
My Unread folders are looking a little better – this time last year I had approximately 66 unread books and now there’s only 51 ( know that doesn’t add up – I later updated 2 books that were in 2 folders). I’ve also only bought 5 books that I haven’t read yet – and 3 were in the last couple of weeks.
In reading goal successes, I read Moby Dick (though not via Whale Weekly in the end) and most of the books I bought were 99p (and all but 2 were no more than £2.99). I didn’t get to a proper Dracula re-read and I very much wanted to borrow more books from the library but sadly they are spending all the budget on audiobooks and paperbacks, which are no good for me.
2024 Challenge & Goals
I’ve set my Goodreads reading challenge to 40 books, which seems manageable. If you’re doing one too, feel free to friend me. Here’s some others:
- Read Dracula in the format it was actually intended to be read
- Get my Unread folders under 30 books overall
- Read all the physical books in my bedside table TBR stack (there’s only 4!)
