My Year in Books

Here’s a look back at my 2025 reading challenge and my reading goals for 2026.

2025 books

My reading challenge was a failure this year and I only managed 39/48 books. I’m just so tired these days that I fall asleep too quickly. Here’s a few stats:

  • Fiction: 20 / Non-Fiction: 19 / Comics: 0
  • Ebooks: 35 / real books: 4 / of those, borrowed: 0

Once again, an unintentional perfect split between fiction and non-fiction! I do make an effort to rotate but I don’t check how I’m doing. No comics is sad to see, as well as lowering my reading numbers. I did also read a ton of magazines in the last couple of months, thanks to my library’s free access to the Pressreader app.

2025 books

Nice to see that I started and ended the year with space. It was definitely my biggest theme across both fiction and non-fiction. I’m not happy to see that my longest read was also my least favourite – what a waste of time on a hate read.

2025 books

Here’s my favourite books. More fiction than non-fiction is a little surprising. You can read about them all on my Books, Comics & Zines I Read in 2025 page.

My other goals weren’t too successful either. I did visit more secondhand book shops and the big Edinburgh book sale, and got some good stuff there. My library being relocated from literal steps away to the park (up a steep hill!) for the storm-damaged gym meant I only visited once and didn’t borrow anything.
I completely forgot about looking for unread books on my shelves and will roll that forward.

2026 Challenge & Goals

I’ve set my reading challenge to 48 books again, though I would also like to do some re-reading so I won’t beat myself up if I fail. Other goals:

  • Make my very practical Kindle cover cuter! It’s a black hole in this photo.
  • Read more comics – and zines.
  • Do more daytime reading. If I can find a way to read while Zwifting I’d be laughing (don’t @ me about audiobooks, they’re not for me)
  • See what other unread books are lurking on my shelves and make a list.
