May 2026 Recap

A look back at my month with photos, blog posts, plans & goals progress, links and more.

What I’ve been up to

spring flowers

May could have been an email (and not a very interesting or fun one at that) so this will be a short post. Hopefully June is better.

Most of my few photos are of food – some pretty strawberries, lunch with Nicolette at Wagamama, retro cafe TokyoTreat box including DIY Napolitan Spaghetti (surprisingly good for what was essentially noodles with tomato powder).

Things I Wrote

Plans & Goals Progress

Books: Only 1 this month so I’m now 5 books ahead of schedule. You can see them all in Books, Comics & Zines I Read in 2026. I’m currently reading The Count of Monte Cristo and it’s great but very very very long.

Crafts: I still haven’t found a new project to get enthused about but I do have another Robotime kit to review. I got it before launch so didn’t realise it would be 6 star Master level difficulty! This lily pond is one of the easier bits so look out for the full review in about 10 years.

Zwift

Cycling: I did manage to finished the Spring Classics climbs but the big achievement this month is I made it to the summit of Everest. Taking 8 months to ride 8848m of elevation isn’t particularly impressive but it’s a nice one to tick off. Or would have been, if it didn’t immediately switch to a new challenge of 50,000m. Despite all that climbing, I am apparently a sprinter now and got to wear a bunch of sprint jerseys, including the 10 second sprint above, and broke all my sprint power records. I also realised you can track a goal on Strava so I’ve done 778.5/2026km, 65.1km behind schedule. I had no idea if this was possible for me when I set it but it does seem doable.

Generally Good Stuff

The Mandalorian & Grogu

I never miss a Star Wars movie at the cinema and The Mandalorian & Grogu was good fun, if kind of pointless. I’m still playing Tears of the Kingdom and have bashed through it all far too quickly. I should really have set a challenge to slow me down.

I got a deal on NowTV so finally got to watch Heated Rivalry and started on Dunk & Egg, which both have unbelievably perfect casting. I don’t generally mind adaptation changes but it feels really refreshing to watch two such faithful adaptations.
